Everyone is Welcome at the Library!
You don’t need a membership to browse our shelves, sit for a while and read the newspaper, attend a program, or use the wi-fi access.
You can obtain a free membership by showing a photo ID with current address and parents or legal guardians may obtain library cards for their children. Service will not be denied or abridged because of age, gender, color, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, or racial, religious, social, economic, or political status.
Library services are offered to the community free of charge. The only fees that may be imposed are fines for the late return of books, DVDs, or other library items or if an item is returned damaged or if an item is never returned. We also have a fee structure for customers who wish to have a Delaware library card, but do not live or own property in the Delmar School District. And finally, if you’d like a copy or print-out of a document or would like to send a fax, we do charge a nominal fee.
Throughout the year, we add books, DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, magazines, and newspapers. This is done seamlessly and free of charge. Don’t have the item you’d like to read, watch, or listen to? We can borrow items from out-of-state libraries to fill your requests. Books may come from Ohio or Oregon or states between and we do this free of charge to you.
We also present an array of programs for children and adults throughout the year. Whether it’s the wildly popular summer reading program for children, teens, and adults or book discussions, lectures, or educational and informative programming, there’s never any fee imposed for our customers.
Our Library offers rentals of the Hayman Meeting Room to the public at a reasonable rate and requests for use of the room are decided on a case-by-case basis. Applications for meeting room use are available at the Library’s front desk.
The Delmar Public Library receives its funding from the Sussex County Government and its Department of Libraries, the State of Delaware’s Division of Libraries, and the Town of Delmar. Additional services are paid by the generous support of civic groups and individuals in our community and by grants, fines, and fees. The Library receives no financial support from Wicomico County, Maryland, or the State of Maryland.
